I was on vacation last week at my favourite place in the whole world: Bon Echo Provincial Park 🙂 …such a beautiful place! Anyways, obviously we had the opportunity to take some awesome photos and this gave me a chance to try out some photo editing apps on my iPad.
Obviously these apps are nowhere near as powerful or versatile as Photoshop but some offer some very good options and tools for enhancing and customizing photos.
My favourite app so far is Photoforge 2 for iPad. It offers many familiar photoshop tools such as Hue/Saturation, Colour Balance, Curves, etc.. It also has several cropping and sizing options and a variety of cool effects and filters to add to your photos. My favourite feature is the ability to create masks (This is something I had yet to find in a mobile photo editing App). Creating masks is a function I use all the time in Photoshop so it’s only natural that I would want to do so with my iPad.
At only $2.99… This is definitely the best photo editing App I have found so far.
The only con I can give it is that there is no function to insert text. But I suppose some would argue that it is strictly a photo editing application, not a graphic design program. Still.. it’s a feature I’d like to see.
Here are some before and after photos I created with Photoforge 2 in just a few minutes!
Tools used: Hue/Saturation, Colour balance mainly to bring out the green and make the photo pop.
Tools used: Cropping and rotate, Hue/Saturation, Unsharpen Mask, and Mask to create the vignette effect
Photoforge 2 also has a function for instantly sharing photos to Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, email and so on.
In conclusion, no mobile will ever compare to the versatility of Photoshop but Photoforge 2 comes as close as I would expect a good photo editing App to do.
